Immunoassay Screening Method for Polychlorinated Biphenyls

چکیده
SUMITOMO KAGAKU 2008-I persistent organic pollutant (POP) together with dioxins and nine chlorine-based agricultural chemicals that have similar properties to PCBs, such as DDT and chlordane. Furthermore, in order to prevent pollution from spreading globally, an international convention concerning usage regulations and disposal of POPs (the Stockholm Convention: POPs Convention) was adopted in May 2001. Japan ratified the POPs Convention in August 2002, promoting the PCB waste measures in a framework of international regulations, as well as their own regulations. On the other hand, it was reported in 2003 that there was a possibility that insulating oil contained in certain heavy electric apparatuses currently in use may be contaminated with trace amounts of PCBs (low concentration PCB pollutants)1). It was estimated that the number of such heavy electric apparatuses reached several million2). In order to properly treat these apparatuses, there was a pressing need to clarify the PCB concentration of the insulating oil in the apparatuses and determine the presence of pollution. In other words, it became necessary to establish a fast and inexpensive measuring method to determine the presence of PCB pollution in an enormous number of oil samples. This need was not expected to arise when the initial PCB treatment plan was established under the PCB Special Measures Law enacted in 2001. In this report, I will describe conventional PCB analysis techniques using equipment and a new screening method for PCBs Introduction

Thermodynamics Study of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) Passing through SWNT and Their Removal from Environment
Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) have been widely used to flame-retard products common in homes and theworkplace, and subsequently. Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) typify a class of highly toxic, stable aromaticpollutants. PCBs are recently being scrutinized for potential environment damage in groundwater and in theatmosphere. The elimination of chemical pollutants from a contaminated environm...
متن کاملOptimization of a commercial biosensor for polychlorinated biphenyls and evaluation of its utility for screening.
We previously described our systematic progress that eventually resulted in a commercially available immunoassay based biosensor (PCB biosensor) for detecting PCBs in oil. However, IC50 of the commercialized PCB biosensor was approximately 2 ppb for PCBs, and did not achieve the theoretical detection limit (TDL) which would represent an IC50 of approximately 0.5 ppb. In this study, we charact...
متن کاملBiodegradation of Polychlorinated Biphenyls by and Isolated from Contaminated Soil
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) cause many significant ecological problems because of their low degradability, high harmfulness, and solid bioaccumulation. Two bacterial strains were isolated from soil that had been polluted with electrical transformer liquid for more than 40 years. The isolates were distinguished as Lysinibacillus macrolides DSM54Tand Bacillus firmus NBRC1530...

Development and modifications are described that expand the application of an immunoassay from the detection of Kanechlors (Japanese technical PCBs mixtures) to the detection of Aroclors (U. The first necessary modification was the development of a new antibody with a reactivity profile favorable for Aroclors. The...

This research was carried out to assess the dechlorination and decomposition of Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the real waste transformer oil using polyethylene glycol 1000/NaOH through a modified household microwave oven. To do so, the influence of polyethylene glycol (PEG) (1.5-7.5 g) and NaOH (0.3-1.5 g) under microwave (MW) power of 500 W on the dechlorination efficiency of PCBs, exist...

Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) are considered highly toxic contaminants and the environmental and biological monitoring of these compounds is of great concern. Immunoassays may be used as screening methods to satisfy the growing demand for rapid and low cost analysis. In this work, we describe the application of an immunoassay that uses 2,3,7...
